Sports Betting Tips

Betting sports has become more and more popular through the years with the growth of online wagering and the growing popularity of internet gambling. How do we make sports betting more profitable? Let’s take a look at some of the things that will help you as a sports bettor.

1: Knowledge
2: Money Management
3: Discipline

If you can improve your sports betting in these three areas then your chances of long-term winning are greatly increased. Let’s take a look at each of these three areas individually.

Knowledge. It is important to have a good idea of what you are doing when betting sports. If you don’t have the knowledge then go to someone that does. That may mean using a sports service or following someone else’s picks. If you are going to wager on a selected sport make sure you know all you can about it. Take football for example, if you are wagering on the NFL then you want to know what handicapping factors are important. Is betting the favorite a good idea in the NFL? Are home dogs always profitable? Is going against the public a good idea? Let’s say that you expertise is baseball. You want to know what matchup statistics are important. Is the starting pitcher everything when handicapping a baseball game? Are the pitcher’s last three starts important? That type of information is important when handicapping each sport, and the more working knowledge you have, the better off you will be.

Money Management. I can talk at length about this subject but the basic premise that will help you is to keep the amount of your bets pretty much the same. Don’t go overboard on any one game. It is okay from time to time to double the bet size, but don’t go and bet your entire bankroll on one game. It is best to set a size for your regular play and then double it for a strong play.

Discipline. This one can’t be stressed enough. I can’t tell you how many times sports gamblers will pick winner after winner, and still manage to lose money. It is very easy to lose control when betting sports, especially after a few tough losses. Let’s say you win six out of seven games and are up almost five units for the week. You then lose the next three games, get upset, and double or even triple your bets and lose again. Instead of being right around break-even, you are broke.

Improving your knowledge, money management, and discipline, will help you become a more successful sports bettor and help make your sports wagering more profitable.
