Money Management is Paramount in Successful Sports Betting

By Tom Wilkinson

The Golden Rule of sports betting is for a sports bettor to manage his sports betting money wisely. With the explosion of online sports betting it has never been easier for a sports bettor to “get action” and, unfortunately, that causes a lot of action oriented sports bettors and their bankrolls to get into quick trouble. A sports bettor should do an honest self assessment of what exactly are his sports betting goals and what he is trying to get out of sports betting.

If a sports bettor honestly answers to himself that he simply wants to have nightly action on the televised sporting event of his choice that is fine and his business. He should simply make his sports betting wager at his favorite sports gambling house and enjoy the action knowing that he may have zero advantage, or even a disadvantage, against the odds or sports betting line that he bet against at the sports gambling house.

Now if, on the other hand, a serious sports bettor truly wants to make money at sports betting above the recreation enjoyment he gets from the “action”, then the first thing that he must know to do is manage the money in his bankroll and exercise the discipline necessary to pass up a lot of action that online sports betting offers.

The first thing that a serious win oriented sports bettor should do is analyze what his TRUE and REAL bankroll is. A bankroll is the amount of money that a sports bettor can make sports wagers with at online sportsbooks or casino sportsbooks that does NOT include day to day living expense money. In other words, a sports bettor should FIRST outline his living expenses budget and then whatever is left over he may utilize for sports betting.

After a sports bettor determines his bankroll he should next determine his minimum win amount. This is the minimum or least amount of money that the sports bettor would want to win at an sports gambling house when he bets against the odds or sports betting line on a game. This will help prevent a sports bettor from betting on too many action games at online sportsbooks.
