Don't Place Sports Bets Without an Edge

By Tom Wilkinson

A  player that has determined that he will participate in sports betting with the intent on winning at it must develop methods that will illustrate to him when he has an edge against the  line or  odds that he is considering at the sportsbook or sports gambling house of his choice.

Once a sports bettor uses one of the determining factors such as power ratings that are available to help sports bettors analyze and determine sports handicapping edges the sports bettor must then compare those ratings or statistics that he is utilizing to determine his edge against the sports odds posted by his casino sportsbook or sports gambling house.

Next a sports bettor must determine what his “minimum edge” will be in order for him to bet against the odds posted at the casino sportsbook or sports gambling house. The higher the minimum edge amount that a sports bettor sets, the more selective he will be and less games he will make sports wagers on. Conversely, the lower the minimum edge number is that a sports bettor determines, the less selective he will be and more games he will make sports wagers on.

Part of a sports bettor determining his minimum edge amount is based on his personality. A sports bettor must analyze himself and what his tolerance level is as far as amount of games bet against the sports odds.

Some sports bettors, while wanting to work with a minimum edge amount, still crave a lot of action and don’t like to pick and choose, thus, they will have a low minimum edge number.

Then there are the sports bettors that cannot tolerate a lot of action and sports wagers on several games. These sports bettors are much more selective when up against the sports odds and prefer to bet a limited amount of games at their sportsbook or sports gambling house. These players will have very high minimum edge requirements for their sports wagers.
