An Expensive RecreationOnline sports betting is simply a continuance of a tradition that dates back to the Founding Fathers of the United States, and in fact well before then, it’s been a well established fact that boys will be boys and all boys will have their toys. To put this another way, even when boys grow into men, they still have toys, or hobbies, and most often a helluva lot more expensive that what they had during their school days. Today’s man has a multitude of hobbies from golf, to other recreational sports, to boating, fishing, online poker, gardening, grilling, reading, movies, and countless others. Some of these hobbies are quiet expensive and nearly all of them can put a man’s bankroll into excess. None has more potential to be as costly as sports betting. In reality, as harsh as it sounds, sports betting should NOT be a hobby because if wagering against the sports betting odds is treated as a hobby or a recreational escape it will be a drain on a sports betting player’s bankroll and not worth doing, nor any fun. Online sports betting is no different than online stock trading, or should certainly be treated as such, and taken just as serious because the cost of jacking around with sports betting wagers is prohibitive and adds up fast. When it comes to sports betting, the recreational aspects of it should be limited to office pools or fantasy sports. Football picks in which money is bet at online sports betting websites or casino sports books against the sports betting odds departs from any rationale definition of recreation and should be considered as a serious investment. Spend some time at a Las Vegas casino sportsbook or an online sports betting weblog and you will quickly discover the tremendous numbers of sports betting players making football picks and wagers against the sports betting odds based on nothing more than irrational hunches, emotion, “name brands,” word of mouth, and just for action and “fun.” And yet these same sports betting players will whine and complain about getting screwed on bad beats, and missing out with just one loss on a five-team parlay card, or a teaser or halftime wager that just missed at an online sports betting website. It is hard to muster up much sympathy for individuals that treat sports betting as something relative to buying a powerball ticket at a gas station or liquor store. To the recreational sports betting player, they would be better off at a megabucks machine and at least throw their money away on the chance at millions of dollars, which sports betting doesn’t offer.
